Tales of a church musician - Part IV

Today I get an email from one of my ringers stating that she is having trouble finding a sub (gee what else in new) and has asked Cindy to sub next week . For thoes who don't know, Cindy quit the bell choir soon after I took over. She quit rather loudly in the middle of the church one SUnday and yelled at me saying that I was treating her like a child...at which point she turned and stomped off refusing to let me say anything in my defense. In response to this ringers email I said that I would prefer she did NOT call Cindy ever and that I would rather have the position unfilled. Obviously my ringer then told Cindy about this because guess who called me tonight? Yup Cindy!

She again accused me of be vengeful towards her and that she was "only trying to help out a friend by subbing". I tried to tell her that i didn't think she would want to sub and that after things ended I didn't think ti would be a good idea for her to come...she just didn't understand. She kept on insisting that I had it out for her and was treating her unfairly. I REALLY DON"T LIKE THIS WOMAN!!!! ARGGGGGHHH!! I can't wait until I don't have to work at churches anymore. The word HATE comes to mind.

Let's just say that the choir has been drastically different since she left. It has been much BETTER than when she was there. Less stressful and more productive and more musical.

Sounds like she had already asked Cindi! Would have been nice if she had told you that in the first place. You could have tolerated it for one rehearsal and not been bothered by her again?!
Church work means flexibility and biting your tongue till it bleeds sometimes!

Okay, that's what VH1 and I call "Most Awesomely Bad Tales of A Church Musician."

No one should have to put up with Cindy. EVER. This woman is the epitome of poor musicianship. When she's at a rehearsal the rehearsal DOESN'T HAPPEN.

You shouldn't have to bow to Cindy's wishes just because it's a church setting. Going to church should mean to try to better a better person, not manipulate and scream until you get what you want.

Church work is thankless and incredibly sucky because it's filled with jerks who act like jerks and jerks who allow others to act like jerks because "church work means flexibility".

Don't let her be a jerk and don't let anyone tell you to let someone be a jerk to you.

Yeah, I'm interested to find out who "M" is. In recent times, church folk have consistently proven themselves capable of dishing out substantial amounts of abuse upon others, all the while claiming that the "Christian" thing to do is to just take it.

Well fuck that. No one deserves to be abused, and definitely not in the name of Jesus Holy God Almighty Christ.

Her talent aside, this Cindy woman sounds like a bad person. You are in charge, and you have the right to tell bad people that they can't work for you. Period.
