Here's a debate question for you all. Who was the better dancer Gene Kelly or Donald O'Connor? Granted Gene Kelly has more dancing apearances in the picture, but when pitted together (such as the Moses Supposes song) who was the better more athletic of the two? Talk amongst yourselves.

I appreciate O'Connor's athleticism in this film, but Gene Kelly was the better dancer. He made dance not only an okay thing for guys to do, but he made dance common (think 'Fair Weather' or 'Summer Stock'), artistic (ie 'American in Paris'), and a great method to score with Vera Ellen (as in 'On The Town').

I agree that gene Kelly did wonderful things for making dance cool. I know that after watchign him I want to learn how to tap.
There's always something in Gene Kelly's face that just... makes him the best. He was good at dancing and he knew it and he loved it and was dedicated to it.
Donald O'Connor is a comedic genius though, and you see some of that personality come through in his dancing.
Both are good. Each good in his own way. But my vote is Gene.

I think both are very good, but tapping Gene Kelly is better. When you watch him tapping it's like for him it is the most natural thing in the world! It's like a game for him....
as much as I love Donald O'conner
I just dont think you can get better than gene kelly, if you watch them in moses supposes, Donald is often looking at his feet and is alot more tense. Whereas Gene constantly has his head up and smiling, you can tell he isn't running the steps through his head.
Dancing was his life, he was a natural :D
dont get me wrong, they are both fantastic, but Gene was a more natural dancer, he made it look simple.
love that you love this movie :D
I personally think that Gene's dances are perfect, on the other hand Donald's dance is fun and comical but not as perfect.
